So like I said for the first book. WOW. This series is so amazing. I can't even begin to start. I will say that there were things I didn't like about this book, and things that I liked about the first. Such as the fact that Brystion is barely in this one. I'm one of those readers that when reading a book with a romance in it, I pick sides, and all kinds of stuff. So basically I missed Brystion, but then I started seeing Talivar as a love interest and was going crazy if they didn't get together. But hey that's how I am :) So yes, this book was amazing. A few new characters (not that many) entered the scene and rocked Abby's world. (As per usual) She has to save the world again! But this time she has everyone backing her up.

The plot was just as good as the first, and the characters still made you laugh your butt off, so other than that you should definitely read it! The way Pang writes is amazing!

“Who’s my little man?” The unicorn crooned at Benjamin and then winced when a hank of beard became the baby’s newest form of entertainment.

“Keep that up and you’ll be a baldy chin,” I retorted. “And I don’t recall asking your opinion. Not that that’s ever stopped you before. Talivar around?”

“Nope, burned the coffee again. Ran out to get more.” A snort escaped him. “He’s even worse at it then you are.”

“Probably something about being a prince and not having to actually cook for himself. At least he’s trying. More than I can say for you.” I stooped to search for my Crocs, pushing through dust bunnies and clumps of what suspiciously looked like unicorn droppings. “Christ, Phin, use the toilet or go outside or something.” I

snatched my hand away.

“That’s not me. I think you’ve got mice.” His tone became wheedling.

“I’ll bet. Just clean it up.” “With what? Gonna turn my tail into a broom?” The furred tuft in question flicked

as if to make the point. “I’m sure you’ll come up with something. Besides, aren’t unicorn horns proof

against poison? Purifying water, that sort of thing? Surely something that can bring a dead man back to life can disinfect like Lysol?”

Oh. My. God. This book was amazing! I haven't read an adult urban fantasy in a while and reading this book made me regret it infinitely. I mean who wouldn't enjoy a mini unicorn that can talk, bites peoples butts, and is a pervert? Oh and don't forget the sexy succubus or the enchanted iPod. Yes I just said enchanted iPod.

Urban Fantasy (or at least my experience with it) always has some cool character with paranormal pieces into it, and always has hilarious characters and USUALLY some hott steamy sex. This book definitely had the last part. And the second part. I was laughing about once a chapter, and most of it was because of the unicorn. (His name is Phineas by the way) Other than that the other characters were also unique and awesome in their own way. Abby was an engaging, kick butt heroine, and as far as I can tell she'll continue to be in the next two books of the series.

This book will take you for a wicked ride and leave you wanting more. The plot is amazing! Daemons, angels, faeries, you name it, this book has it. The way it's written shows that Abby has serious attitude, and really gets you into the character's heads. I have started the second book in the series, A Sliver of Shadow, and will be posting the review for the blog tour tomorrow. So don't forget to stop by!

Q: Have you ever looked at book’s cover and thought, This is going to horrible? But, was instead pleasantly surprised? Show us the cover and tell us about the book.

So the book I choose is Assassin's apprentice by Robin Hobb. This book is my boyfriend's favorite book ever and he made me read it soon after we started dating. Now looking at the cover it seems like a boring fantasy book that old people read. But inside, it's amazing.

This book is so special and the other two books in the trilogy as well. All three are so good and have such a great voice and plot that you fall in love. Most of Robin Hobb's books aren't visually appealing on the outside, but theyre a gem stone on the inside.

So this was another book that surprised me. As you all know my main genre of choice is YA. My second is Adult Parnormal Romance. This book obviously fits neither of those genres. It's been a long time since I read a book like this, and I ate it up. Faster than some YA books actually. I was very surprised that I liked it so much, and finished it in two days. The plot is mesmerizing. I mean sometimes I actually learned things just from this book. When Mitch is like a robot just repeating information, I was lost like, woah he's a genius. And the war stories/fight scenes were so detailed it was like an adrenaline kick every time.

Woody and Kate, and Molly even, were all great characters and spiced up the book. Woody was funny and always rarin to go, while Kate was the brains and the calm one. Molly was her wild friend, what else is there to say? On the opposite side, there was Cheslov, the crazy Russian guy. He creeped me out.

If you like thrillers, and science-fiction books, then inSyte is for you. It might even be for you if you don't. It's a pretty great book.

Book Review: Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb

After a failed attempt at running away, best friends Nathan and Misty return home expecting to face angry parents. Instead, they discover the military has destroyed the bridges out of their rural town and everyone's fled--except a small horde of the living dead. Even with the help of the town geek and lemonade-powered Super-Soakers, there's not enough time to squeeze their way out of this sticky mess. Unless the trio eradicates the zombie infestation, while avoiding the deadly zombie snot, the military will blow the town, and them, to pulp.

Their only shot is something with a lot more punch. Something like the Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb. But even if their friendship survives, there's another problem: Someone has to lure the undead into the trap.

So this seems to be a repeating occurrence lately. I start a book doubting that I'll enjoy it more than a little, and what really happens is I love it. It's weird. The first thing that made me iffy about this book was the name: Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb. It's very unique and makes you think, "What the heck does that mean? What is it?" I also thought that the cover was a big strange and unprofessional, but let me just say that my opinion on all these things was changed forever after I finished the book.

A classical zombie novel, Nate and Misty run away to go camping but when they return, nobody is in the city. They discover the bridges blown and the "mayor" tries to "kiss" Misty. A very strange beginning indeed. You add in a nice car, a walmart, and some super soakers and you basically have the premise of this book. It's cute and funny in it's own way and will find it's way into your heart as you read it. The characters were depicted well, I loved Kali (I refuse to spoil anything! But it's so hard!) and I liked Nate and Misty's innocence, but awesome courage as they battled zombies. I wouldnt have lasted half as long as they did, or as calmly.

On an extra note, there were two short stories at the end of the book that were both pretty good too. At first I didnt think I'd read them but in the end I figured if they were as good as Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb, they had to be good. The first was about hobgoblins and an old man, and the second was about Bloody Mary. Which is weird because I've been hearing about her alot lately...

This book was a definite surprise. When I began reading it I wondered exactly why I decided to review it for a blog tour. Lately I've been reading mostly Young Adult novels, and when I put this book on my kindle and looked at it, I didn't feel the urge to read it. I basically made myself begin the first page, but after that, I was sucked in.

Gio and B are two of the most intellectually fascinating characters I have read about so far in 2012. Their quick wits and word choices keep you laughing and learning throughout the book. They also fit each other perfectly. I really wanted them to be a couple, and couldn't wait to see if they did. Gio is a quiet man who is very charming and gentle, while B is like a fire ball, fun and quick witted that matched Gio's paces perfectly.

The other characters were unforgettable as well. Carwyn and Tenzin were both so fascinating that I loved when they entered the pages. Carwyn was a hoot in his hawaiian shirts and his wolfhound that would dig up Gio's gardens. And Tenzin was the all knowing wise one who everyone went to for help.

The plot was also a fantastic piece in this book as it was about lost old books and scrolls. Being a reader it fascinated me and made me want to become an antique book collector also! I can't wait to read the next two books in the series, and will be impatiently awaiting the fourth.

My second favorite debut novel this year! Cinder was what I was hoping for and more. Caught in a world where Cyborgs and Lunars are hated, she finds herself discovering things about herself she wishes she never knew. Her evil stepmother is a pain in the butt, her only human friend is taken by the horrible disease ravaging New Beijing, and the prince she likes may or may not be interested in her. After he finds out she's a cyborg that is.

In the entertainment industry, fairy tail retellings are hitting the top charts as of late. Beastly by Alex Flinn, new Snow White movies, Red Riding Hood movies, and even a couple of Sleeping Beauty movies! And I can definitely promise that Cinder is one of the best.

Filled to the spine with action, adventure, and romance, Cinder leaves you thirsty for more. The characters are spellbinding, the plot is entrancing, and the writing captures you and threatens to never let you go. A good book is one where you get inside the world, you feel like you're really in it, and you don't want to leave. Cinder is one of those books. Kai and Cinder are the cutest couple ever and Iko is a great sidekick. Parts of this book will make you cry, others will make you want to chuck a rock across the room, and sometimes you might even feel so engaged that you want to go watch the original disney Cinderella movie.

Q: What book would you love to see made into a movie or television show and do you have actors/actresses in mind to play the main characters?

I would love to see Tempest and Cinder made into a movie. Oh and of course Touch of frost by Jennifer Estep :) And I think the best role for Jackson in Tempest would be the same actor who played as Percy Jackson. I think that Reese Witherspoon would be a pretty okay Cinder, and for some reason I have James Patterson in my head for Prince Kai. Amanda Bynes for Touch of frost, with her hair dyed brown of course. And Channing Tatum HAS to be Logan.

Review:

This series is full of so much potential! The idea of this story is brilliant and exciting. Guardians who are immortal and each have their own special power. Mates are for life, and they get a special mark that shows their bond. How cool!

It took me around three days to actually read this book. That was because I only had the PDF file and had to read it on the computer since PDF files usually have too small of text to read on my kindle. To tell you the truth, reading it on the computer makes me appreciate the book way less than if it was on my kindle or in paperback form. I was dragging through the book until about page 200. Then I was hooked.

Turen and Mia are a great couple. The passion between them never tires you out, like some romance novels. Each time they kiss it's like theyre meant to be together, and you can't wait to see them together again. The paranormal aspect of this book is also amazing. A great story with even greater characters. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series, and possibly KH's other books as well.

So two of my friends read this a few days before I did and the both said it was amazing. So I just had to read it right? Well I started it and was like Woah! this really is awesome. I love how it's written. I mean I like the lines on the side of the chapter beginning. And I love the journal entries. For some reason the font for the entries was what made me like them so much. I'd look ahead for the next journal entry and try to get there ASAP to read what he had put. I know, I'm a dork.

I also completely and utterly LOVED the entire plot and characters. Jackson, Holly, and Adam were so cool! Each personality went great with the other and Im completely in love with them. I also loved the fight scenes. They were written so vividly that it was like I was there and could feel the adrenaline shooting through me as I read it.

Julie Cross is definitely an up and coming new author and I can't wait for the next book in this series. I'll be awaiting Jackson return in the future ;)

1. What is a book you thought you wouldn't like, but did?

Well I didn't think I'd like The Year She Fell by Alicia Rasley (see my review here). It's not my usual cup of tea but I really enjoyed it.

2. Do you prefer first person, second or third person?

Hmmm this is a hardy. I really don't pay too much attention to the POV but I will have to go with first person.

3. Where do you prefer to buy books?

Well my favorite store used to be Borders before it closed, so now I go between this used book store called 2nd and Charles, and of course I shop at Barnes & Nobles.

4. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

The power to jump through time like Jackson from Tempest! (See my review that I will be posting tomorrow).

5. What book or book series caused you to enjoy reading?

Harry Potter was the first real book series I ever read. I was reading it by second grade and was dying for the next books by fourth.

6. What books are you looking forward to the most this year?

Im looking forward to The Darkest Seduction, The Rise of Nine, and The Mark of Athena.

7. What is your fondest book memory?

My fondest book memory is kinda pathetic. I went to basketball camp when I was younger and one summer I had basketball camp the day that the sixth Harry Potter book came out, or maybe it was the 5th? Point is I was so sad because I wanted to get it but I had to go to dumb camp. Well when I got out of camp, my grandma had gotten me a copy of the book and it was sitting in the car! Haha it's a dumb memory but I like it :D

8. Who is your favorite male character?

My favorite male character is Kisten from the Hollows by Kim Harrison. He sexy ;)

9. What do you think of love triangles?

I actually enjoy love triangles. Especially when both the guys are gorgeous. But if I don't like one of the guys, it can become annoying.

10. What secondary character in a book do you wish was the main character?

I wish that Sam was the main character in Shiver. I love him :)

First Line: "I remember exactly what I was doing when I heard the news...."

The arthurian legend seems to be making a comeback lately. New TV shows, movies, and especially books have been coming out that depict the long ago story of Arthur and Merlin. I think my favorite visual production of it is the British TV show Merlin. As for my favorite book, My Boyfriend Merlin definitely takes the cake.

Set in modern day, the novel begins with a historic moment. The famous sword in the stone falls from the sky and causes a tremor throughout the earth. You proceed to meet Matt, Ryan, and Grey. The characters in this book are pretty much the best part. Full of humor, romance, and action, they never disappoint.

Ryan is a very endearing heroine. There was never a point when I didn't enjoy reading from her POV. As heroines go, she's a very strong one. At the beginning of the novel it makes you think she's fragile, but as the story weaves itself, you see so much more in her.

Then there are the two guys she falls for. Matt, and Vane. Brothers (of course). Matt is the one who protects her at the beginning, and Vane is the one who protects her at the end. So basically the book makes you think "Oh Matt!" and then you change your mind about him and are like "Oh Vane!" Personally I think I like Vane more. I always go for the bad boys.

The other big factor that makes this book so gosh darn good is the world that Ardis created. It kind of made me think of Harry Potter. Not because it's like it, but just because of the wizarding school. It's nothing like Hogwarts, but I mean, when you think wizard school, you think Harry Potter. So the world in My Boyfriend Merlin is very unique and one of a kind. I enjoyed the academy, and Vane.....and Matt. And everything about this book! So go read it :) I promise you won't be disappointed.

The First Line: "The grease-slicked hair is a dead giveaway--no pun intended."

So I got this book from the library around two months ago. But I ended up taking it back to the library. After rechecking it out this month and reading it, I have decided that I was an idiot for not reading it the first time.

The thing I liked most about this book was the characters. Cas and Anna were so cute and innocent. At first I thought it was strange that he liked a ghost, but by the middle of the book, you like them so much you don't care anymore.

On the other hand is Thomas and Carmel. Thomas is like the sidekick with Carmel being the sidelines heroine. They bring a little romance, and humor into the novel, as well as close friendship with Cas. By the end of the novel there is a "full circle" of friends who fight by each other's sides to banish evil ghosts.

Another thing I would like to touch on is how original this novel is. I mean it sort of reminded me of Supernatural, but at the same time it's in a whole other league. The plot keeps you on your seat, and the characters make you fall in love. I can't wait for the story to continue in The Girl of Nightmares.

This is the first adult romance that I have read so far in 2012, and let me just say that it was perfect.

A good romance is heartbreaking, loving, gentle, and full of surprises. Always You meets all of this criteria. The story of Lyla and Andrew is sad, and then in comes Alex, healing her, and then a betrayal happens. Nick on the other hand is there to pick up the pieces, but will Lyla let him?

A few coincidences help too. Like the fact that they just happen to be working on a big project together.

This book is a novella, it is only around 130 pages and is a pretty fast read. Normally I don't like books under 250 pages but this was an exception. It felt like an entire book. I didn't feel like any of it was rushed, and the details were amazing. The passion between Alex and Lyla kept me on the seat and I think I fell in love with him myself xD

Also it was in Paris, my new favorite city after reading Anna and the French Kiss!

5/5 for this awesome, sweet, heart-breaking novella.

Four D consists of four chapters: “Space”, “Four Rooms”, “The Principle of Luidgi”, and “Guest”.
“Space” is a story about disappearances. The character lives in a world of disappearing people and objects, which might or might not be important. In such a flexible reality, one should not get used to or attached to anything. However, the main character falls in love and finds a best friend despite all risks. To top it all off, he is visited by Space—the power that stands behind all the disappearances.
“Four Rooms” is a story about a young woman called Elise. Elise had always been a prisoner of her own mind. But at some point everything took a turn. She had to make a stand when she found herself at a life changing situation in a dark room with four doors. She has to open all doors and enter every room with its own mystery and secrets. “The Principle of Luidgi” is a story about Luidgi. Luidgi has everything: a beautiful girlfriend, a good job, a lovely apartment, trusted friends but instead of being happy and grateful he’s sick and tired of it all. Luidgi decides to change everything despite all costs.
“Guest” is a story about the character who wants to meet the Guest. Finally one day he makes decision to do “it” and the Guest arrives. Now all his questions are about to be answered, but is it really what he wants?
These tense mysterious stories with incredibly engaging plots will not leave any reader feeling indifferent.

When the author asked me to review this book, I accepted thinking: Ok this book sounds pretty good. Well when reading it, it was definitely good, but at the same time it was so bizarre! I didn't even understand the first story. I mean it was just too weird for me to wrap my head around. Morrison has a strange way of writing that is like foreign to most authors. It's a gift and a curse all at the same time.

The first story is called Space and like I said, I didn't even understand it. Even after finishing it I was like what the heck just happened? What was the point of this story? What was going on? It was sort of like a poem. The words were not making sense but if you delve deeper you see the real meaning. But I only saw the meaning of a few things in this entire book. Definitely a weird story. I would rate this story around a 2/5.

And then the second story was definitely my favorite. It was called Four Rooms. This one had me very interested and sort of reminded me of the Saw movies for some reason. A woman wakes to find herself in a strange room and proceeds to solve the puzzle of how to get out. She ends up finding four rooms. But in the end she doesn't really get an answer to why she is there. It's all a little fuzzy for me still. But I loved this one! 5/5 for it.

The one I truly didn't get was the third. I guy who has everything but starts throwing it away. I didnt get why he was doing this, or what his motives were. But I realized it was crazy about halfway through. He had tons of friends and asked a girl to marry him. Then he slowly unraveled it all and had fun in doing it! What kind of mad man does that? This book is totally a mindblower. 3.5/5 is given to The Principle of Luidgi.

Last but not least, the fourth story was the shortest. Just around 20-30 pages, it was called Guest. Although confusing like the others, it was very intriguing. A man sits in a hotel, awaiting a guest. When she comes, it gets weird and then she starts doing strange things in a park and gets mad and then she vanishes. She says her favorite place is in the past, and in the end it seems that the main character is dying and then she leaves for good and the last words are: The Bridge. And again, I'm totally lost. I would probably have to read this book over and over to even get an inkling of sense from most of it. But all in all a great read! 3.5/5 for Guest. And a 3.5 for Four D as a whole. Very enjoyable but hard to understand!

My favorite place to read is in a quiet spot where I'm comfy and with a snack and something to drink. Normally I read in a chair or on the couch. I drink a cup of milk and eat some ramen. At my dad's I sit in the computer chair and prop my legs up, or prop the pillow on my bed up and read. I can read anywhere although if there's alot of noise or if I'm in a car I get easily distracted from it. When I was younger my favorite place was in the bathtub. I would take a book in there and not come out for hours. My grandma would check on me once an hour to make sure I hadn't drowned. xD

My Take: It took me 3 days to actually read this book. For some reason the first two days I couldn't get into it and only read eleven pages. But on the third day I couldn't put it down. I never really read books about mythology until Percy Jackson. But now I love them! This book was no exception. I loved the mythology that was involved and the characters were all funny and charismatic in their own ways. I really especially liked Gretchen. She was the tough one who fought the baddies, Grace was second favorite because of how nice and just awesome she was. Greer on the other hand was a snob. I also liked how they were in San Francisco and that's where the monsters came out. It seems quite fitting doesn't it?

Would I Recommend? I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes mythology!

My Take: When Kenya sent me a review request for this book, I was ecstatic! This book sounded so amazing! I mean the name piqued my interest first, then you add in a bunch of supernatural creatures, two hott guys vying for the main girl's attention, and a mystery/thriller touch to it? Heck yes I wanted to read this. I actually read it in two and a half hours and can't wait for the second book, The Burning Bush, to come out. *Squeals* The cover of The Burning Bush looks SO cool on goodreads! Check it out here!

I loved the characters in this novel. Zulu and MeShack are very original names and they fit their owners very well. I can't say which of the two I like the best either. I love Cheetahs (MeShack is a were cheetah) and I loved how Zulu had wings. It was a very capturing story line with great twists and even better sex!

The Cover: The cover is so cool! I love how the flames are portrayed and the font for the title is very fitting.

Would I Recommend? I would surely recommend this book to anyone who is into supernatural things and likes some good romance and hott were guys. ;)

My Take: So I officially decided that this is one of the best romance novels I've ever read! I mean after reading this I totally want to go to France! It even inspired me to buy a shirt yesterday that said bonjour on it :) But yes! This book was so amazing. I love Etienne and Anna. This entire book was just full of wonderful surprises. People make Paris out to be the city of love and this book definitely backs up that saying.

(I've already informed my boyfriend that we are having our honeymoon in Paris. He thinks he can talk me out of it. But he's wrong.)

The characters were so fresh and loving that it was like you were there and you felt everything and saw everything. I fell in love with Etienne along with Anna and felt hurt when Toph was a jerk! I just can't believe that it took me so long to read this book. Definitely a fav!

The Cover: Very fitting for this novel. The cover draws you in all by itself. It speaks of romance and hott parisians xD

Would I Recommend? Yes, yes and more yes! Come get some yummy french guys ;)

Have you ever wondered what your real purpose or calling in life is? But most of us plod through life doing something we fell into at an early age. Then we gain responsibilities and get stuck in those professions for the rest of our life. The First Line: "What is the definition of the word "evil"? Wikipedia states the following: ..."

My Take: This was a pretty fast, thrilling read. It wasn't quite my cup of tea which doesn't happen very often. Just because it wasn't what I usually read doesn't mean it wasn't a good book, but it wasn't as good as I thought it could have been. It had a pretty great plot, but I felt like most of the book was rushed. 180 pages isn't really a book, it's pretty small. I liked how fast I could get through it though, and in the end was pretty okay with it.

Sometimes the book took a very short amount of time to explain something that it should have put in the most detail. When the bad guy is finally defeated, it's about a paragraph long and has very few detail. It also wasn't much of a struggle and seemed pretty easy for the whole book to be leading to that point. I kind of wish there had been an epic battle between the two that lasted more than like two minutes.

Other than that the characters were pretty likable and the wording was okay. I still think this book had more potential so I'm giving it a 3 which is like a neutral. Didn't love it but didn't hate it :)

The Cover: To me the cover symbolizes evil. The look on the guys face is pretty demonic and I think it fits the book well.

Would I Recommend? This is another book for mostly adults. It's something that mystery/thriller fans would like so if you like reading about good guys hunting baddies and killing them, then you'll like this book.

The First Line: "Lara McInnis fidgeted in the ginger-colored overstuffed chair taking up most of one corner of her cozy psychotherapy office."

My Take: This book wasn't too bad but I just couldn't seem to get into it. It took me around three days to finish and I had to force myself to read. In the end it was a good read but definitely not one that makes you want to just sit and read nonstop because it's so good and you can't wait to see what happens. The characters are enjoyable and the plot is good. It has paranormal aspects which I greatly liked. I mean after reading Farsighted, this was my second psychic book in a row.

The plot is pretty good but it seemed to move slowly, the way the book was written is pretty nice but it doesn't draw you in like other books do. Lara was a great character and I love her boyfriend/fiance Trevor. I used to want to be a psychologist but after reading this I'm happy I gave up on it.

The world that Gimpel has created in Psyche's Prophecy is for sure a different one. Sidhe and aliens? It sort of reminds me of Spell Checked where witches and vampires were from their ancient ancestors (aliens) who settled on earth for a short amount of time. All in all this book was an average read. I'm giving it a 3.5.

The Cover: I was slightly disappointed in the cover for the book. I think that it's a boring cover and for me I actually do judge a book by it's cover. I buy books just because they have nice covers.

Would I Recommend? This isn't really for young adults, but I would recommend to adults and teens who enjoy novels with psychology and psychic traits in them.

Time Travel and Writing

Stories about turning back time, finding a fountain of youth and living forever have always been popular. Star Trek added the overlay that time travel was permissible so long as you didn’t do anything in a past time zone that would alter the future. If you really think about that, it would be impossible, unless you were invisible, didn’t talk to anyone and didn’t pick up so much as a rock and move it.

There is something seductive about being able to go back to another time, or take a peek into a yet-to- be experienced future. On a much smaller microcosm, one of the things I used to really enjoy about real books was paging back and forth in them. That’s a whole lot harder with e-readers unless the book’s been well-annotated.

A common saying is we all have twenty-twenty hindsight. Another is that the view through the retro spectroscope is crystal clear. Obviously what that means is if we applied the knowledge we have at hand now, we might have made different choices in the past. Those choices would impact where we are at the moment. There’s a famous quote by George Santayana: “Those who cannot remember past are doomed to repeat it.”

So, how does all of this apply to writing? One of the old rules, that I always thought was cast in stone, but that I see authors break all the time these days, revolves around point of view. You have a point of
view character for virtually all stories. This is the character whose eyes the story is viewed through. You can only change POV characters at section breaks or in new chapters. Many novels are told from a single
POV. Some have two or three POV characters. Since the reader can’t know more than the POV character knows, it can be challenging to write a lengthy novel from a single point of view. For one thing, that
character has to be in every single scene because if they didn’t see something happen, you can’t write about it.

The loose link with time travel is someone actually has to be there, going back in time, to understand how having a conversation with, for example, a woman standing on a street corner might change the course of history. You need a consistent character who can interpret the impact of time travel as it moves along a timeline to the present day. An easier way to do that might be to have POV characters in each of the differing time zones and some way they can communicate with the protagonist who’s
drawing it all together.

In 1843, Dickens wrote about the ghosts accompanying Scrooge into his past and future in A Christmas Carol. H.G. Well’s Time Machine came along in 1895. And let’s not forget Mark Twain’s, A Connecticut
Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. That one was published in 1895. If you go to Wikipedia, there are scores of books and movies about time travel which tells me there’s an archetypal desire on the part of humans to explore new realms. On a more modern front, there are all of Diana Gabaldon’s books featuring a time-travelling protag who goes back to eighteenth century Scotland.

One of the hallmarks of successful genre writing is good research. For a book to have that verisimilitude twang, the author simply has to put in the time to understand what they’re writing about. I think it’s actually easier to write about a future that hasn’t happened yet, than about a past that has. Reason is there are lots of armchair critics out there who probably know way more than I do about the French Revolution or the American-Indian War or the geography of Tanzania. So, if I’m going to turn out a
genre novel featuring time travel, I’d need to pick places in time I can write cogently about. I also need a protagonist with a personality that could mesh well with, say, Ancient Minoans, or Stone Age folk, or
wherever my novel takes place.

go back and do something over again? How did that impact your life? Did it change in how you relate to others? Make you more compassionate? More distant? More (or less) trusting?

Q: BeefcakeandBabes Asks: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What’s the most unique character name you’ve come across?

Well to tell you the truth I think the most unique names I've come across were from Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series. It was one of the first real romance series I read and I loved them! The Lords' names were: Maddox, Reyes, Lucien, Sabin, Amun, Strider, Paris, Aeron, and Gideon! I think there may be a couple more I'm forgetting but forgive me since I haven't read them in a long time and someone has my entire series on borrow!

Let's face it - the publishing industry is changing. We can all pretty much agree on that, right? What we've got on our hands is an oncoming era of enlightenment (I prefer that to the often-touted “revolution”). ‘T wasn’t long ago that being a self-published author was practically as shocking

and horrific as being a witch in Salem, Massachusetts circa 1700.

“What damnation have you wrought upon yourself? Upon us all?” The traditional pub villagers would cry as they rushed for their pitch forks and torches. “Be gone with you, unnatural creatures!”

And those unkind words were enough to send us packing. They didn’t have to chase us out of the village, for we never had any real magic, we were never any real threat.

Until…

We opened our eyes. We saw the true powers we possessed, and we saw the villagers for what they lacked. We are able to manipulate our circumstances. We have more control than any who’ve gone before us. Self-publishing truly is magic. But we can’t just walk around all blasé, showing off our green skin and harry warts while levitating our way through the park. That would be a mistake. We need to put on a little bit of concealer and keep our feet on the ground. We wouldn’t want to scare them away. Similarly, a self-published or indie author needs to put on a bit of a show. We need to know when to conform to the “village” way of life and when to do our own damn thang. If we can get them to come in for a closer look, they might understand our allure. Then they’ll stop being so afraid. Our make-up isn’t Maybelline to cover that green skin (I ♥ you, Elphaba). No. We apply our foundation by writing a truly fetching and well-edited manuscript. We dab on the blush when we take the time and expense needed to don an attractive book cover. Our lipstick is a professional, personal, and functional web presence.

Don’t we look pretty? We do, I tell you. And we’re all the more beautiful for knowing that we possess something so much deeper within: creativity, stick-to-it-ness, bravery, and of course – magic.

If you really examine the state of the publishing industry, it’s not the traditional house execs that populate the villages. Oh, they’re definitely the mayors, the cryers, and a few other choice townspeople. But if you want to see who lives in the village, go and knock on a few doors.

It’s the readers, bibliophiles, book addicts. They’re the ones who built this town. The mayor would have no village to govern if ‘tweren’t for them.

And thank God for it!

We arrived on their doorsteps – beaten, bloody, in need of a hot meal and a bit of rest. They may have been put off by our bedraggled appearance, but they ultimately let us in and showed us the true nature

of their hospitality.

I kind of like this town; I think I’ll move in ;-)

As a teen C.G. Powell was selected as a member of her school's newspaper staff. After her first article the editor decided the darkroom was a more suitable place for her skills…or lack of. In her life time, she has learned: aviation electronics, CCNA networking, Gemology and how to get bloodstains out of the carpet (you never know when you might need that). INTERVIEW WITH C.G. POWELL!

1. What made you come up with the idea for the name Spell Checked for your first novel?

I wanted something computer related since both of my main characters are in the IT business. It’s just the nerd in me showing...LOL

2. Is there a certain book or author that inspired you to want to become an author?

I’ve always loved the Darkover Books by Marion Zimmer Bradley...I like how they crossed the boundaries between Sci-Fi and Fantasy. But, it wasn’t until I read the simplicity of H.P. Mallory that I had the desire to create my own world.

3. Out of all the characters in Spell Checked, who was the hardest to write?

Mae was by far the hardest to write, her character in this book, is not as defined as the other characters. Spell Checked is more about Beck than Mae, but in book two, Exile Bytes, she becomes the focus of the book. There are events that will bring out the best and the worst in her.

4. How did you come up with the name Mae?

Ever since I saw the movie My Friend Totoro, I have been in love with the name. I even have a cat named Maelin, but we call her Maeham (mayhem) because she is crazy.

5. What was your favorite part about writing Spell Checked?

Creating the characters and the places was my favorite part of writing. I would say making them do what I want, but that doesn’t always happen. Sometimes they take on a life of their own and dictate to me what they will do next. Aidan was that way for the whole book, I would want him to do one thing and he would want to do something else...99% of the time he won...LOL

6. What’s your favorite kind of candy?

I like just about anything with almonds, but my true love is beef jerky washed down with a Monster or Rockstar. And I’m addicted to cheese, all kinds...I need to go to cheese rehab!

Review Time!

The First Line: "Hurry-up Mae, before we miss our flight," Gemma yelled across the room as she paced with her keys in her hand, waiting to bolt out the door of their apartment."

My Take: This book remarkably reminded me of The Circle Trilogy by Nora Roberts. In both books there was a witch and a vampire, and their personalities were quite the same. Now, I'm not saying this negatively, because I loved both books/series. Im saying this because to me it's a good thing because I love both stories, theyre definitely not the same, and I love all the characters. The story for this was enthralling. I loved how Helen was in Mae and *slight spoiler* how Beck and her fall in love! I sort of hated Beck in the beginning and was wanting Mae to get with Aiden because I thought he was funny, but by the end you are so in love with Beck yourself, you want to steal him from her.

I loved every character, Meredith, Aiden, Mae, Beck, Gemma, and the other ones. (I can't think of their names xD)

They were all great. I read this book in one day and couldn't put it down. The plot is amazing, the characters so great you can't stand them, and all around this book was perfect!

The Cover: The cover is pretty nice! I love it. It's actually how I would picture Beck and Mae :)

Would I Recommend? Hell yes! This book is hilarious and enticing. I love the Diablo 3 references. I can't wait for the second book to come out!

The First Line: "I am writing in response to your Love Grows post from Christmas Day. I think I might have what you're looking for."

My Thoughts: So let me first say that this isn't the type of book that I usually read. If you haven't been able to tell, I generally read books that are unreal. Vampires, werewolves, witches, anything out of the ordinary. If it's normal then I don't like it. Well this book was a tad different. Sure at the beginning of this book I was saying: "This isn't that great, it doesn't have vampires or anything in it." And my friends would just laugh and be like, "That's typical of you."

But by the end of this novel, I loved it. It grew on me and in the end I realized what a great story it was and how impacting it was. I mean Mandy is so hurt inside but after staying with Jill and her mother, she feels like she belongs and she starts over. This book is equally sad and happy at parts and in the end you will feel satisfied with the entire thing.

The Cover: When I see the name of this novel I ALWAYS think of the song How to Save A Life by The Fray. It's such a great song! Maybe it was named after it? But yes, the cover is pretty and fits the novel well :)

Would I Recommend? At first I didn't realize that Sara had also written Story of a Girl, which I used to own when I was younger. It was one of the most heartbreaking yet amazing stories that I have ever read. It makes me cry but at the same time I love it. How to Save a Life did the same. I guess I'll have to check out her other books and see if theyre as good as these two. You should do the same :)

The Story: First off, let me just say for the hundreth time that this is the first steampunk novel I have ever read. Now, after having said this, I will tell you what I thought of this novel.

It was brilliant! After reading this book I will DEFINITELY be reading more steampunk novels. The plot was amazing! It was like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, except in YA form! There was action, romance, mystery and even thrill!

As far as I am concerned, this is probably going to make the top 5 best books I read in 2012. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I mean it's a 473 page book and I read it in one day. I stayed up all the way until 11:30 reading because I couldn't wait until the next day to find out what happened!

The Characters: The characters in this book are phenomenal! Finley was such a great main character. I loved how she was so sweet but when her "Hyde" surfaced she was a complete and total b***h. I found her intriguing and didn't even dream that her seperate personalities (*spoiler*) were in fact Jekyll and Hyde.

On the other side, there was Griffin. Strong, handsome, quiet and caring. His special ability was a strange power that he could control with his eyes. He could basically see into the realm of the dead with those eyes. He was a great important part of the book and he complimented Finley well. I really hope they get together next book!

Then there was Sam, Griffins best friend. You can't help but not like him for most of the book because he's a big grump who treats Finley bad. I wanted to reach into the pages and strangle him sometimes xD But in the end hes ok. His special ability was super strength, and before the book started he was attacked by a rogue robot and died but Emily fixed him and made him tough as metal. Literally.

Emily, you may be wondering, is the only other girl in this league. She has a knack with robots and can fix, invent and even talk to them! She's like a total genius and is pretty funny at times.

And lastly, there was Jasper and Jack. Jasper had super human speed and sort of joined the story in the middle. Jack on the other hand was a deep dark shadow who was enticed by Finley's dark side. And in comes the love triangle!

The Cover: The dress of the girl on the cover is beautiful! It's one of my favorite covers yet this year :)

Would I Recommend? Yes ! Yes! Yes! Read this book. Now!
